October 25 CDC Update on Cantaloupe Outbreak

On October 25, CDC provided its most recent update to the Listeria monocytogenes foodborne illness outbreak linked to cantaloupes from Jensen Farms in Colorado.  The key updates provided by CDC were:

  • As of 9am EDT on October 24, 2011, a total of 133 persons infected with any of the four outbreak-associated strains of Listeria monocytogenes have been reported to CDC from 26 states.
  • Twenty-eight deaths have been reported. In addition, one woman pregnant at the time of illness had a miscarriage.
